Police have arrested all five suspects in connection with the gang rape of a minor at the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Dehradun, officials said Sunday.
Dehradun’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Singh announced that a case has been registered at Patel Nagar Police Station under the POCSO Act. The police are actively collecting evidence against the accused.
SSP Singh also requested that electronic and print media, as well as online platforms, refrain from sharing unofficial information about the case.
“Only the official press releases issued by the police regarding this incident should be considered authorized and published. Apart from this, if anyone broadcasts or publishes any news related to the incident without any official information/confirmation, then the entire responsibility will be on the concerned party,” he said, ANI reported.
SSP Ajay Singh pointed out that Section 23 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, prohibits any media or related facilities from reporting or commenting on a child without complete or verified information. This is to safeguard the child’s reputation and privacy.
He also noted that if any news is published or broadcast without proper verification, legal action could be taken against the individual involved, as stipulated under Section 23 of the POCSO Act, if the crime is confirmed.
