Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday announced the cancellation of the police constable recruitment examination held statewide on February 17 and 18 due to an alleged paper leak. He made the announcement on a social media post and said that a re-examination would be conducted within six months.
Emphasizing the importance of maintaining the integrity of examinations, CM Yogi said, “There can be no compromise with the sanctity of examinations. Those who play with the hard work of the youth will not be spared under any circumstances. Strictest action is certain to be taken against such unruly elements.”
Additionally, the UP government issued orders to investigate alleged irregularities and malpractices in the Review Officer/Assistant Review Officer (RO/ARO) examination at the government level.
The examination, aimed at filling 60,244 police constable positions, saw a massive turnout of 48 lakh candidates across 2,378 examination centres in 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh.
A case has been registered at Krishna Nagar police station in Lucknow over the paper leak case, according to police.
The case was filed on Monday against Satya Aman Kumar, who appeared in the exam, and Neeraj, who allegedly provided the leaked paper to Kumar before the exam.
Both the accused have been arrested and sent to judicial custody. They have been booked under Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code, under the Information Technology Act, and the Uttar Pradesh Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act.
