The Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Dinesh Sharma has hit the ground running as soon as he entered his new office. With cheating cases coming to the fore in recent weeks in this examination season, he said he woudl be taking concrete steps towards curbing malpractices which is rampant in the state and said he would conduct meetings via video conferencing with the District magistrates in the state. Sharma’s statement comes after a video surfaced in the social media which shows a shameful picture of students indulging in mass cheating at a school in Ballia. According to the Indian Express report, the students who were appearing for their board examinations had their books opened and were openly copying from each others answersheets. Some students even went outside their examination halls to find the relevant course material.

Similar was the situation at Mathura’s Radha Gopal Higher Secondary School, where the education mafia had allegedly entered the examination hall to distribute chits to the examinees for their mathematics paper.
ABP News reported that education mafia is so active during the examination period that even law and order apparatus has failed to stop them. In some places school walls have been demolished, holes have been punched into the windows to make way for the passage of examination answers. The mafia is not daunted by the prospect of police or any other government bodies and they operate with impunity.

UP Chief Minsiter Yogi Adityanath led government has buckled up and indications are strong that it will put an end to these malpractices. Initially, it has directed various district officials to take the concerned steps. Moreover, the government has also hinted at taking strict action against wrongdoers.
