Union Minister of Social Justice Ramdas Athawale has filed a complaint with the Election Commission (EC), objecting to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s repeated claims that the BJP intends to change the Constitution of India.

Athawale, who is BJP’s ally, said on Wednesday that Gandhi should refrain from making such claims. “Rahul Gandhi has frequently claimed that the BJP plans to change the Constitution if it comes to power again. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has refuted these charges several times,” he said, as PTI reported.

“I have filed a complaint with the Election Commission against Gandhi’s frequent claims. He should be prohibited from saying it, and there should be some action against him,” the Republican Party of India (A) chief added.

On Monday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that the ongoing Lok Sabha election is about safeguarding the nation’s Constitution, which he alleged the BJP and RSS seek to change.

While addressing a public gathering at Jobat town in Alirajpur district in Madhya Pradesh, Gandhi stated, “This election is being held to save the country’s Constitution. The BJP, RSS want to change it, but the Congress and the (opposition) INDIA alliance are trying to save it.”

He remarked that the BJP gave the slogan of ‘400 paar’ (aiming to win more than 400 Lok Sabha seats) with an intention to change the Constitution. “Leave alone 400 seats, the BJP will not get more than 150 seats this time,” the Wayanad MP said.

Gandhi also mentioned that if the Congress comes to power, they will introduce a programme called ‘Pehli Naukri Pakki’, which will guarantee youth one-year apprenticeships in companies, after which they will be benefited with employment opportunities.
