Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday announced plans to create an industry guild and a supply chain observatory to work together with UK on critical minerals. The observatory will include

a satellite campus at the Indian School of Mines in Dhanbad, Jharkhand. Earlier during the day, PM Modi and UK PM Starmer had held a delegation-level meeting in Mumbai.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India and the UK are natural partners, with shared values like democracy, freedom, and the rule of law forming the foundation of their relationship. He added that in today’s world of global uncertainty, the growing India-UK partnership is helping maintain global stability and drive economic progress.

During the meeting, the leaders discussed issues including the Indo-Pacific region, peace and stability in West Asia, and the Ukraine conflict. Modi emphasized that India supports all efforts to achieve peace through dialogue and diplomacy, both in Ukraine and Gaza. He also noted India’s commitment to enhancing maritime security in the Indo-Pacific. In addition to education initiatives, the UK will assist in training Indian Air Force flying instructors. Modi also highlighted the agreement between the two countries on military training and cooperation.

PM Modi during his joint address also said that India’s dynamism and UK’s expertise together creates a unique synergy. “Our partnership is trustworthy, driven by talent and technology,” he added.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he has brought “the largest trade delegation for a decade” to India, highlighting the major business and investment opportunities being explored during his visit.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said his visit to India aims to “double down” on the trade partnership between the two countries, calling the bilateral trade deal a key part of their growing relationship.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer conveyed his deepest condolences to India over the recent Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, expressing solidarity with the victims’ families and those affected by the tragedy.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s visit to India comes two and a half months after both countries signed a major free trade agreement aimed at boosting economic ties. The deal, finalised during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to London in July, will cut tariffs, improve market access, and is expected to double trade between India and the UK by 2030.

In a big step for India-UK film collaboration, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced in Mumbai that Yash Raj Films (YRF) will produce three major movies in the United Kingdom starting early 2026. The project is expected to create over 3,000 new jobs and bring millions of pounds into the British economy. The announcement was made during Starmer’s visit to Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this October.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is yet to meet UK PM Keir Starmer but he did give him a warm welcome via an X post on Wednesday. “Welcome Prime Minister Keir Starmer on your historic first visit to India with the largest ever trade delegation from the UK. Looking forward to our meeting tomorrow for advancing our shared vision of a stronger, mutually prosperous future,” PM Modi wrote.

The British government on Wednesday said that new investments from India announced during Keir Starmer’s visit to Mumbai, will create nearly 7,000 jobs across the UK, in cities ranging from Basingstoke to Birmingham. According to the UK Prime Minister’s office, these deals show India’s growing role in supporting growth and innovation in the UK economy after Brexit.

The first day of the UK delegation’s two-day saw Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal meeting with UK Trade Minister Peter Kyle for bilateral talks to review the trade deal, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said. The Ministry said the meeting was an important step in putting the India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) into action. Both ministers agreed to reorganize the Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) to monitor the deal’s implementation. They emphasized their commitment to carrying out the agreement quickly and efficiently to benefit businesses and consumers in both countries.

The two leaders will meet top business and industry representatives to discuss opportunities under the India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), which is considered a major part of their future economic partnership. They will also talk about regional and global issues that interest both countries.

During the meeting, the two Prime Ministers will review progress across various areas of the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, following the ‘Vision 2035’ roadmap. This 10-year plan focuses on key areas like trade and investment, technology and innovation, defence and security, climate and energy, health, education, and people-to-people ties, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.

Prime Minister Modi will be joined by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer will be accompanied by Peter Kyle, Secretary of State for Business and Trade, and Jason Stockwood, Minister of State for Investment. The leaders are expected to discuss ways to boost cooperation in trade, investment, technology, defence, climate action, and education. They will also participate in the India-UK CEO Forum and the Global Fintech Fest 2025.

Rolls-Royce CEO Tufan Erginbilgic, who is in India as part of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s delegation, announced that the company will treat India as one of its “home markets.” The company plans to double its sourcing from India by 2030 and establish its largest Global Capability and Innovation Centre in the country.

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal met British Trade Minister Peter Kyle in Mumbai to explore ways to strengthen trade ties between the two countries. The meeting took place during UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s two-day visit to India. Kyle is part of the British delegation accompanying Starmer. Earlier in July, India and the UK finalized a free trade agreement during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Britain. The deal aims to lower tariffs on products like textiles, whisky, and cars, while opening up new market opportunities for businesses. The agreement between the world’s fifth- and sixth-largest economies is expected to increase bilateral trade by £25.5 billion (around USD 34 billion) by 2040.
