Two Indian Army soldiers were martyred, and two others injured in an intense gunbattle with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on Friday, officials reported.

The encounter began after a joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, based on intelligence inputs. “A contact with the terrorists was established at 1530 hours. In the ensuing firefight, four army personnel were injured. The operation is ongoing,” posted the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps on X (formerly Twitter).

The encounter occurred in the upper reaches of Naidgham village in Kishtwar’s Pingnal Dugadda forest area. The security forces swiftly cordoned off the area as the operation progressed.

In the same region, two terrorists were neutralised earlier, and a large cache of warlike stores was recovered following a joint operation by the Rising Star Corps and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

Security in Kishtwar has been heightened as the operation continues, with more details awaited.
