Ashish Kapoor, an actor from the TV serial ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’, has been sent to 14 days of judicial custody by Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court following his arrest in Pune. Delhi police arrested Kapoor in Pune and charged him with sexually assaulting a woman.
According to the Delhi Police, a medical potency test of actor Ashish Kapoor was carried out at AIIMS on Friday. The actor has been charged with raping a woman who alleged that he sexually assaulted her inside a washroom during a house party in Delhi in the second week of August.
Rape charges against Ashish Kapoor
According to Indian Express, DCP (North) Raja Banthia confirmed that Kapoor was arrested in Pune on Wednesday. The police also stated that they tracked the movement of the actor, first to Goa, then to Pune. The police teams were dispatched to both locations, and he was eventually arrested.
According to the victim, Ashish Kapoor and his friend, who hosted the house party with two unknown men, sexually assaulted her. She also mentioned that a woman had physically assaulted her.
However, later on, she claimed it was only Kapoor who raped her. As per the IE report Police stated that they are following legal procedures, and charges of gangrape will be converted to those of rape in due course.
Investigation and FIR
Following an initial FIR filed on August 11 against Kapoor, his friend, his friend’s wife, and two others. In a new statement given by the victim on August 18, she alleged that Kapoor and his friend had raped her, and that the friend’s wife had hit her.
On August 21, Kapoor’s friend and his wife were granted anticipatory bail. The victim was present at the hearing but reportedly did not include the friend’s name in her submissions.
According to investigating officers, a review of CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts indicates that the victim and Kapoor went into a washroom together during the party. When they remained inside for some time, Kapoor’s friend and other guests began knocking on the door.
