A 62-year-old woman was tied to a tree and allegedly burnt alive by her two sons in West Tripura, officials reported on Sunday (September 29). Police have arrested the sons and suspect that a family dispute may have led to this horrific crime.

The incident occurred on the night of September 29 in Khamarbari, within the jurisdiction of the Champaknagar police station. According to the police, family dispute may be the motive behind this act.

The victim had been living with her two sons since her husband passed away approximately a year and a half ago, while another son resides in Agartala.

“After receiving an input that a woman was set on fire, a police team rushed there and found the burnt body tied to a tree. We took the body to the hospital for post-mortem examination,” Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Jirania Kamal Krishna Koloi said.

Two sons have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the incident, and they will be presented in court today, where the police will seek remand for further interrogation.

“We have arrested her two sons for their alleged involvement in the case. They will be produced before the court on Monday, seeking police remand for interrogation. A family dispute may be the reason behind the incident,” Koloi said.
