The Indian Embassy in Iran has urgently taken up the case of three missing Indians, all from the same family, who vanished after arriving in Tehran on May 1.
In a statement posted on X, the Embassy confirmed that family members informed them about the disappearance. “Family members of three Indian citizens have informed the Embassy of India that their relatives are missing after having travelled to Iran,” the post read.
The Embassy has requested Iranian authorities to trace the missing men and ensure their safety. “We have strongly taken up this matter with the Iranian authorities, and requested that the missing Indians should be ‘urgently traced and their safety should be ensured,’” it added.
The Embassy also assured that it is “keeping the family members regularly updated on the efforts being made by the Embassy.”
The three missing individuals—Hushanpreet Singh from Sangrur, Jaspal Singh from SBS Nagar, and Amritpal Singh from Hoshiarpur—had traveled to Iran from Punjab. According to reports, they were allegedly lured by an agent promising illegal passage to Australia.
However, shortly after reaching Tehran, they went missing, with families claiming they were kidnapped. The families have reportedly been asked to pay a ransom of ₹1 crore for their release.
The situation remains tense as authorities work to locate the missing men and ensure their safe return.
