In a recent interview, Thiruvananthapuram Congress MP Shashi Tharoor lauded the efforts following Operation Sindoor. The successful operation that targeted nine terrorist sites that followed the Pahalgam terror attack. Upon expressing his point of view on the insight of global leaders on Operation Sindoor, he said the call for restraint was normal, considering the nuclear power possessed by both India and Pakistan. Tharoor’s observation that “China needs India in a way that it never needed them before” is crucial in understanding the broader regional dynamics. He asserts that “to prevent a war, China will take a constructive approach.”
Following the underwhelming response from US President Donald Trump, Tharoor said that “America, in principle, should have said something, given that they are the one that reacted the most strongly against Afghanistan after 9/11.”

China’s position on Operation Sindoor
China’s non pro-Pakistan stand was pointed out by him. Traditionally considered Pakistan’s “all-weather ally,” China’s nuanced tone this time reflects a strategic recalibration. As Congress MP Shashi Tharoor pointed out, “China did not take as much of a pro-Pakistan stand… What China has said is suggestive that they are not oblivious of the fact that relations with India were warming.”
“Russia, France, and Israel are the only ones that have specifically shown understanding publicly for India’s right to defend itself against terrorism.” said Tharoor,
Tharoor on Operation Sindoor’s all-party meeting
Chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Tharoor stated, “In a national crisis, we must be united. Political differences stop when it comes to national security.” His comments underscore the rare bipartisan solidarity observed in the wake of India’s military action—an aspect that the Indian media has highlighted as crucial to reinforcing the country’s internal resolve. Lauding the all inclusive effort, he pointed that, “he Congress was the first to announce its complete support for the government and the armed forces.”
Operation Sindoor, as framed by Tharoor and echoed across the spectrum, illustrates a moment of national coherence that transcends routine partisanship—offering a strategic advantage both at home and on the world stage.
