Kaushik Reddy arrested for threatening cop

BRS MLA P Kaushik Reddy was arrested on Thursday in connection with a case registered against him for allegedly threatening, abusing, and obstructing a police official in Hyderabad, police said, according to PTI.

Reddy, the legislator from Huzurabad, was arrested at his residence in Kondapur. During his arrest, he claimed it was “illegal.”

The case was filed on Wednesday based on a complaint from the Inspector of Banjara Hills Police Station, accusing Reddy and others of unlawful assembly, obstructing a public servant, criminal intimidation, wrongful restraint, public nuisance, and rioting.

Police said that when the Inspector was leaving the station for emergency field duty, Reddy and a group of individuals obstructed the vehicle. Despite being advised to submit their grievance to another officer, Reddy’s group not only blocked the Inspector’s vehicle but also verbally abused and threatened him.

Reddy, in a statement on Wednesday, claimed he had gone to the police station to file a complaint about his phone being tapped. He alleged that Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and an IG-level police official might be involved in the unauthorised surveillance.
