Telangana Election Latest News: Amid reports of the Election Commission of India announcing the dates for the state polls by October 6, the Telangana government is leaving no stone unturned for the last-minute work. Latest reports say that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has released Rs 5,000 crore in funds for state development. The funds have been released from the Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund (SDF), which will be alloted to the MLAs, according to an official statement.

As the days get closer to Assembly elections in Telangana, the KCR administration is focusing on development programs. This comes at a time when MLAs have exhausted their Constituency Development Fund (CDF). The members of the Legislative Assembly have sought funding through the SDF, which has a budget of only 10,000 crore.

In the previous financial year 2021-2022, the ruling party Bharatiya Rashtriya Samiti (BRS) increased the CDF funds for MLAs by 2 crores, making it total 5 crore. However, due to uncertain challenges in the economy and the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the state government restricted the amount of funds to only Rs 2 crore.

The remaining Rs 3 crore were used in constructing and improving the educational buildings under the “Mana Ooru-Mana Badi” scheme, but on paper, MLA received 5 crore. The MLAs were left with Rs 2 crore in the Members of Parliament local area development scheme.

The problem resulted in a backlog of unpaid contractors and unfinished projects across the state. As a result of the state’s recent allocation of extra funding, the MLAs are now under pressure to address infrastructure issues, including bad roads and inadequate drainage systems, while villages and towns with assembly seats demand significant local improvements.
