Telangana Road Tragedy: A tragic road accident in Telangana’s Rangareddy district claimed at least 20 lives and left twenty seven others injured on Monday morning, Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar informed ANI. The collision occurred when a truck loaded with gravel crashed head-on into an RTC bus near Mirjaguda, close to Chevella.
“Around 20 people died, around 20 are getting treatment in hospital, 3 are critically injured,” Prabhakar confirmed.
PM Modi announces rs 2 Lakh ex-gratia
Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences to the families of the victims and announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakhs from the Prime Minister National Relief Fund (PMNRF). The amount will be deposited into the bank account of the next of kin of each deceased individual. Those who got injured will receive a sum of Rs. 50,000, as per an official release.
“The loss of lives due to a mishap in the Rangareddy district of Telangana is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with the affected people and their families during this difficult time. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakhs from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000: PM @narendramodi,” the Prime Minister’s office wrote on X.
President Droupadi Murmu expresses grief
President Droupadi Murmu on Monday expressed grief, calling the incident “unfortunate.” Taking to X, the president’s office posted, “The loss of many lives in a bus accident in Ranga Reddy district in Telangana is deeply unfortunate. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured passengers.”
Telangana bus tragedy: Collision on Bijapur Highway
“A road accident occurred between a TGSRTC bus and a truck near Khanapur Gate, under the Chevella police station limits in Rangareddy district. Several passengers are injured, and more details are yet to be known. This incident happened early this morning. We reached the spot, and more details will be provided later,” the Chevella Police said, according to ANI.

According to Rajendranagar DCP Yogesh Goutam, preliminary findings reveal that the truck may have been in the wrong lane at the time of the accident. “We have to verify whether the accident occurred while the truck driver was attempting to overtake or if he was driving in the wrong direction,” the DCP said in a statement.
There were around 40 passengers in the RTC bus when the accident took place. Police and rescue teams arrived at the spot, rescuing injured passengers and pulling out bodies from the completely destroyed bus. “The injured are being shifted to nearby hospitals. Traffic on both sides has been diverted,” Goutam added.

Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar spoke to TGSRTC MD Nagi Reddy and the Rangareddy District Collector over the phone and ordered them to take all necessary measures to provide quality medical treatment to the injured, according to ANI. According to the officials, the reason behind the accident was the tipper coming from the wrong side resulting in the collision. The minister has ordered TGSRTC officials to reach the accident spot immediately.
Earlier in the day, Chevella ACP B. Kishan had confirmed the death toll at 16. “As of now, we can confirm that 16 people, including the truck driver and several bus passengers, have died in the accident,” the ACP said. The toll was later revised to 17 after one more victim was pronounced dead, according to The Times of India.
CM Revanth Reddy expresses grief
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and ordered officials to take up immediate relief measures. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the CMO said, “CM Revanth Reddy expressed grief over the road accident that took place in Chevella mandal of Rangareddy district. He has instructed officials to reach the spot immediately and take necessary relief measures.”
The Chief Minister has also ordered the Chief Secretary (CS) and Director General of Police (DGP) to ensure all injured persons are shifted to Hyderabad for better medical care. Ministers present in the region were also told to monitor the rescue and medical arrangements closely.
