JD Vance-PM Modi meet: PM Narendra Modi met US Vice President JD Vance, Second Lady Usha Vance and their children at his official residence at Lok Kalyan Marg in Delhi Monday evening. Earlier in the day, JD Vance made a special stop at Delhi’s famed Central Cottage Industries Emporium (CCIE) in Janpath. The visit turned into a warm and lively experience for both the Vice President’s family and the store staff, as they explored India’s rich handicrafts and artisanal traditions.
Speaking about the visit, CCIE General Manager Meera Somani expressed her excitement, saying, “It was a wonderful visit and he enjoyed a lot. We were quite enthusiastic and we also enjoyed a lot. He saw our showroom and purchased some items.” According to Somani, the Vice President and his family spent nearly 45 minutes at the store, browsing through a variety of handloom and handicraft items.
What did Vance buy?
The Central Cottage Industries Emporium is renowned for its curated collection of traditional Indian handicrafts, ranging from textiles and pottery to wooden and brass artefacts. Showroom Manager Meetu Wazirani described the emporium as “a handloom handicraft hub” and shared that the visitors were highly appreciative of the products.
“They liked everything,” Wazirani said. “They bought tea, honey, papier-mâché items, wooden artefacts, and pottery. They really appreciated the goods. They were very humble and soft-spoken. She (Usha Vance) bought whatever the kids said.”

Store Manager Vinay Agrawal echoed the excitement, noting how the Vice President and his family interacted with the staff and explored various sections of the store. “We are very thrilled and happy that, along with the family, they visited here,” Agrawal said. “They bought some papier-mâché items, small gift items for the kids, and some brass artefacts. They visited all the counters in the showroom.”
Agrawal also highlighted the significance of CCIE as more than just a store. “Central Cottage Industries is one of the temples of art and craft. It’s not an ordinary shop. It is one of the largest organisations in Asia dealing with hand-made handicrafts. She (Usha Vance) really liked art and craft.”
