At least six people, including five women, were killed and three were injured in a blast at an explosives manufacturing factory near Nagpur city on Thursday afternoon, reports PTI.

The incident took place around 1 pm at Chamundi Explosive Pvt Ltd at Dhamna village. The incident took place under the jurisdiction limits of Hingna police station.

Nagpur police commissioner Ravindra Singhal told reporters that a total of nine injured persons were brought to two private hospitals in the city. Of them, five women and a man died during treatment.

Although it is suspected that a spark in one of the explosive cords could have triggered the blast, the cop said that experts are looking to ascertain the main cause.

Most of the victims were working in the factory’s packaging unit when the explosion took place.

Investigation in the case is underway.

Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader Anil Deshmukh said, “The owner and the manager of the factory escaped from the spot. There was no ambulance inside the unit. The people had to approach other authorities to get the ambulance and take the injured to the hospital”.
