Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain walked out of Tihar Jail on Friday evening, shortly after being granted bail in a money laundering case by the Rouse Avenue Court.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, along with AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, greeted Jain as he was released, sharing hugs and smiles while party workers raised slogans in support of him.
Addressing his supporters after his release, Jain joked that even Atishi might face jail time but assured everyone that the party’s fight against injustice would persist. “Atishiji, even you will have to go to jail,” he quipped, prompting laughter from Atishi, Sisodia, and Sanjay Singh.
Jain’s family expressed their joy at his return after nearly two years. His daughter likened the moment to an early Diwali celebration, while his wife, Poonam Jain, described him as a social worker committed to serving the people. “Satyendar is not a politician; he will continue to work for society,” she said.
Jain was granted bail after being held for over two years in connection with a money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). He was arrested on May 30, 2022, for allegedly laundering money through four shell companies. The Delhi court noted that the trial had yet to begin, highlighting the extended period of his detention.
As part of his bail conditions, set on a personal bond of Rs 50,000, Jain is barred from contacting witnesses or influencing the trial, and he cannot leave the country without the court’s approval.
Jain is the fourth AAP leader to be granted bail in a money laundering case, following Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Sanjay Singh.
