Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has expelled former Bihar minister Tej Pratap Yadav from the party for six years, party chief and former Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav announced. In a strong statement, Lalu added that his eldest son would no longer be considered part of the family and advised those associated with Tej Pratap to “make their own decisions”.

The action follows a viral Facebook post from Tej Pratap’s account, claiming he had been in a 12-year relationship with a woman named Anushka Yadav. Though the post was later deleted and Tej Pratap claimed his account had been hacked, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav has chosen to cut off family ties with his son.

“Ignoring moral values in personal life weakens our collective struggle for social justice. The activities, public conduct and irresponsible behaviour of the eldest son are not in accordance with our family values and traditions,” said Lalu Prasad Yadav on X.

He added, “Therefore, due to the above circumstances, I have removed him from the party and family. From now on, he will not have any role of any kind in the party and family. He is expelled from the party for 6 years.”

“He is capable of seeing the good and bad and merits and demerits of his personal life. All those who will have relations with him should make their own decisions. I have always been an advocate of public shame in public life. The obedient members of the family have adopted and followed this idea in public life. Thank you,” the 76-year-old politician from Bihar further said.

‘Cannot tolerate such things’: Tejashwi Yadav

Tej Pratap Yadav’s brother, Tejashwi Yadav, has reacted to the controversy surrounding his elder brother and his subsequent expulsion from the party.

“We cannot tolerate such things; we are working and are dedicated to the people of Bihar. If it’s about my big brother, political life and personal life are different. He has the right to make his personal decisions. He is an adult and free to make decisions,” Tejashwi Yadav told reporters.

He added, “Our party’s chief has made it clear, and ever since he has said so, it is his feelings. We didn’t question such things… What he is doing in his personal life, nobody asks before doing anything. I have come to know about it via the media only.”

Tej Pratap Yadav’s viral Facebook post

“I am Tej Pratap Yadav, and the person seen with me in this picture is Anushka Yadav. We have known each other and been in love for the past 12 years. We have been in a relationship for the last 12 years,” the now-deleted Facebook post from Tej Pratap Yadav’s official page read.

It added, “I’ve been wanting to share this with you all for a long time, but didn’t know how to say it. So today, through this post, I am sharing what’s in my heart with all of you. I hope you all will understand what I’m saying.”

Former Bihar minister’s clarification

After the Facebook post went viral, Tej Pratap said that his account had been hacked and a doctored image was shared to “defame” and “harass” him.

“My social media platforms have been hacked, and my pictures are being wrongly edited to harass and defame me and my family members. I appeal to my well-wishers and followers to be cautious and not pay heed to any rumours…,” Tej Pratap wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Tej Pratap and his estranged wife Aishwarya Roy have been fighting a divorce case in court. They were married in 2018.
