Red Fort terror attack
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the investigation into the Red Fort terror attack. The Centre has described it as a “terror attack” on Wednesday and assured that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
The white i20 car seen in the CCTV footage was driven by Dr Umar Nabi, a resident of Pulwama, after waiting for nearly three hours in the parking lot adjacent to the Red Fort. He was 32 years old and was employed at Al-Falah University.
Police have also recovered diaries from Room No 4, occupied by Dr Umar Nabi, and Room No 13, used by Dr Muzammil, at Al-Falah University. The diaries reportedly contain coded notes, references to the dates November 8 and November 12, and a list of 25 names, mostly individuals from Jammu and Kashmir and Faridabad. Investigating agencies are now tracking these individuals as they dig deeper into what they describe as a “white-collar” terror network.
However, the university administration has distanced itself from the “white-collar” terror module, stating that they were only involved with the accused in a professional capacity. The university has also assured that it will cooperate with the investigative agencies.
Officials had earlier collected DNA samples from Dr Nabi’s mother, and test results have now confirmed that he was behind the wheel of the explosive-laden i20 at the time of the Red Fort terror attack. According to investigators, Dr Nabi drove the vehicle to multiple locations before parking it near the Red Fort for nearly three hours, and then heading towards the blast site.
Police in Haryana have found a red Ford EcoSport, which belongs to Dr Umar Nabi, from a farmhouse in Haryana’s Khandawali village. Forensic and ballistic experts are currently examining the vehicle for potential evidence, The Indian Express reported.
