Out of the 199 sitting MLAs in the present Rajasthan Assembly, 157 (79 per cent) are crorepatis, according to a Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Rajasthan Election Watch report.

A total of 88 (81 per cent) out of 108 MLAs from the Congress, 54 (78 per cent) of 69 MLAs from the BJP, 12 of 14 Independent MLAs and 2 of 3 Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) MLAs have declared their assets worth over Rs 1 crore, according to the report, which analyzed the criminal, financial and other background details of 199 out of 200 sitting MLAs. In the current assembly one seat of Udaipur constituency is vacant.

The analysis was based on the affidavits submitted by the candidates prior to the 2018 Assembly elections and bye elections conducted thereafter.

Among the richest MLAs who have declared their total assets in IT returns are Congress leaders Parasram Mordia (Rs 172 crore) and Anjana Udailal (Rs 107 crore), and Vishvendra Singh (Rs 104 crore).

Incumbent Chief Minister Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his former deputy Sachin Pilot have declared assets worth Rs six crore. Former Chief Minister and BJP leader Vasundhara Raje and BJP state president CP Joshi have declared assets worth Rs four crore.

The average of assets per sitting MLA of the Rajasthan Assembly is Rs.7.49 crore. If we look at the party-wise break up, the average assets per MLA for 108 Congress MLAs analysed is Rs 9.28 crores, 69 BJP MLAs analysed is Rs 5.45 crores, 1 RLD MLA analysed is Rs 2.55 crores, 2 Bhartiya Tribal Party MLAs analysed is Rs 7.66 lakhs, 2 CPI (M) MLAs analysed is Rs.24.24 lakhs, three RLP MLAs analysed is Rs 1.19 crores and 14 Independent MLAs have average assets of Rs 7.54 crores, the report says.

The candidates elected having fewer assets include the youngest MLA Rajkumar Roat representing Chorasi (ST) constituency, Mukesh Kumar Bhakar from Ladnun constituency and Ramniwas Gawriya representing Parbatsar constituency.

The ADR and Rajasthan Election Watch report says that 59 MLAs (30 per cent) have declared their educational qualification to be between 5th pass and 12th pass while 128 (64 per cent) MLAs have declared having an educational qualification of graduate or above. There are seven MLAs who have declared themselves to be just literate.

Out of 199 MLAs, 27 (14 per cent) are women.

Rajasthan MLAs criminal backgrounds

Out of 199 sitting MLAs analysed, 46 (23 per cent) sitting MLAs have declared criminal cases against themselves and 28 (14 per cent) Sitting MLAs have declared serious criminal cases.

One sitting MLA has declared cases related to murder (IPC section 302). while four sitting MLAs have declared cases related to attempt to murder (IPC section 307), according to the report.

A total of 27 (25 per cent) out of 108 MLAs from Congress, 11 (16 per cent) out of 69 MLAs from BJP, 2 (100 per cent) out of 2 MLAs from CPI(M) and 6 (43 per cent) out of 14 Independent MLAs have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits, the report says.
