The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its latest weather forecast has highlighted significant weather patterns expected across several states in India due to a well-marked low-pressure area centered over interior Odisha and adjoining Chhattisgarh. The IMD forecasts isolated instances of extremely heavy rainfall over parts of Madhya Pradesh on July 22-23, while Gujarat is also expected to face isolated extremely heavy rainfall over the next three days, and Konkan & Goa and parts of Maharashtra brace for heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 4 to 5 days. 

Additionally, Uttarakhand is set to see isolated instances of extremely heavy rainfall on July 22, with Himachal Pradesh expecting very heavy rainfall on July 22-23. Meanwhile, the active monsoon trough currently lies south of its usual position and is anticipated to shift northward over the next two days.

According to the forecast, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, west Rajasthan, east Rajasthan, and Jammu & Kashmir are expected to receive isolated heavy rainfall on different days throughout the week.

Delhi weather forecast 

On Monday morning, residents of Delhi-NCR enjoyed pleasant weather under cloudy skies. Relief may be in store as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain or thunderstorms today. The IMD has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for the day. The maximum temperature is anticipated to reach 34 degrees Celsius on Monday, possibly decreasing to 33 degrees Celsius by Tuesday. Overnight lows are expected to range between 26 and 27 degrees Celsius over the next two days.

IMD predicts rain, thunderstorms in Maharashtra

The IMD forecasts light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms and lightning, across Maharashtra on Monday. Specific regions in Maharashtra are likely to receive precipitation within the next three hours. The IMD has additionally forecasted moderate rainfall expected in isolated areas including Mumbai, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Thane, and the Ghats of Satara within the next three hours.

“Thunderstorms with lightning and light to moderate rainfall are very likely to occur in a few places over Chandrapur and isolated places over Bhandara, Yavatmal, Gadchiroli, Wardha, and Gondia, including the Nagpur and Amravati districts of Vidarbha. Very light to light rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over the Akola district of Vidarbha. Take precautions while moving out,” the IMD stated.

IMD issues orange alert for heavy rainfall in Goa

The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Goa, predicting heavy rainfall in many areas and very heavy rainfall in a few places, accompanied by strong surface winds across North Goa and South Goa districts from July 22 to 25. According to the Meteorological Department’s bulletin, intermittent spells of rain, including brief intense showers, and winds gusting up to 50 kmph are expected on Monday. The IMD has also forecast squally weather with wind speeds reaching 45 kmph to 55 kmph, gusting up to 65 kmph, likely along and off the north Maharashtra coast from July 22 to July 24.

IMD predicts very heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh 

The IMD has also predicted light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in various districts of Himachal Pradesh. According to the weather department, the districts expected to experience rainfall include Kangra (Dharmsala, Jaisingpur), Mandi (Sarkaghat, Dharmpur, Slapper, Kotli, Mandi, Sundernagar), Hamirpur (Sujanpur Tihra, Hamirpur), Bilaspur (Swarghat, Bilaspur), Chamba Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, and Kullu
