The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a comprehensive weather advisory forecasting widespread rainfall across various regions in India over the coming days. According to the latest IMD statement, northeastern and adjoining eastern India are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by isolated instances of extremely heavy falls, over the next 2-3 days, with a gradual decrease in intensity thereafter.
Additionally, regions including Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Coastal Karnataka are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 5 days. “Heavy rainfall spell likely over many parts of Central India, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh during next 5 days,” IMD said.
The IMD has issued a red alert for Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in these regions today.
Delhi weather update
A sudden heavy rain shower, coupled with strong winds, struck parts of Delhi on Tuesday, surprising residents and leading to significant waterlogging and traffic congestion. The weather forecast for Wednesday suggests lighter rainfall compared to Tuesday, with an increase in intensity expected the following day. Wednesday is expected to be generally cloudy with occasional light rain. Maximum temperatures are likely to reach around 34 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures could drop to 26 degrees Celsius.
Relief for Mumbai
The intensity of rainfall subsided in Mumbai on tuesday following a day of severe disruptions to daily life and transportation networks, including air, rail, and road traffic. “Local forecast for Mumbai city and suburbs for the next 24 hours. Generally cloudy sky with intermittent moderate to heavy spells of rain in city & suburbs. Maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 31°C and 26°C,” Regional Meteorological Center, Mumbai said in a tweet.
Mumbai’s crucial local train services, often referred to as the lifeline of the financial capital, resumed normal operations with minimal delays of 5-10 minutes, as there were no reports of waterlogging from early morning onwards, officials confirmed.
Rainfall to continue in Himachal Pradesh
Moderate rainfall persisted across parts of Himachal Pradesh, with the Shimla Meteorological Office issuing a ‘yellow’ warning for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning at isolated locations through Thursday and Friday. The forecast predicts a continuation of wet weather until July 15. Concerns include potential damage to plantations, horticulture, and standing crops, as well as the possibility of partial damage to vulnerable structures and kutcha houses due to strong winds and rain. Kukumseri in Lahaul and Spiti district registered the lowest temperature at 11.4 degrees Celsius, making it the coldest place in the state. Conversely, Bilapur recorded the highest temperature at 36.5 degrees Celsius.
Widespread rainfall continues in Rajasthan
The Meteorological office has forecasted continued rain and thunderstorms in parts of Jodhpur, Udaipur, Kota, Jaipur, Ajmer, and Bikaner divisions over the next two days. Southern Rajasthan, particularly Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Kota divisions, is likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall with thunder on Tuesday and Wednesday. Additionally, heavy rainfall is expected in some parts of the Udaipur division. The intensity of rainfall is anticipated to diminish starting from Thursday.
According to the regional Meteorological office in Jaipur, from Monday to Tuesday morning, light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, occurred in various places. Significant rainfall totals were recorded, with Kalwad in Jaipur receiving the highest at 93 mm, followed by Malarna in Sawai Madhopur with 85 mm.
More rains in forecast for West Bengal
The Meteorological Department informed that northern West Bengal, already enduring torrential downpours in recent days, is expected to continue experiencing heavy to very heavy rainfall until July 11. This forecast is due to an active monsoon trough and a cyclonic circulation in northeast Assam, which are likely to bring significant rainfall with isolated instances of extremely heavy downpours over the region until July 11. The intensity of rainfall is anticipated to diminish slightly on July 12 and 13.
