Did Congress leader Rahul Gandhi doze off, or even worse, go to sleep in the Lok Sabha even as a heated exchange was going on in the House over the controversial Dalit issue? This came as a shocking revelation on live TV and left viewers wondering how serious the MP of the second largest party in India is about doing his job.

TV footage telecast live from the Lok Sabha showed the Congress vice-president sitting in his chair in the hall with his hand covering his eyes and half his face and for all intents and purposes not listening to the crucial happenings in this hallowed hall with the government looking to calm down the Opposition leaders who had gathered in the Well of the House to protest the brutal assault on 4 Dalit youths on July 11 for ostensibly skinning a cow in Una.

Even as the camera in the Lok Sabha panned across Rahul Gandhi, the MP seemed totally unaware of what was transpiring. Considering that Congress’ has been the loudest voice protesting against this atrocity and blaming the Centre for not doing enough to ensure atrocities like this do not happen and if they do, not doing enough to bring the culprits to book and punishing them as soon as possible.

This is even more shocking considering that Congress President Sonia Gandhi has slammed the Modi government over this attack on Dalits in a state that is ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Sonia went to the extent of saying that this is an example of ‘social terror’ and that it is actually being condoned by the ruling dispensation.
