Gold dips below 30k level on demand

Gold prices on Tuesday fell to a one-month low of R29,900 per 10 gm by losing R130 on fall in demand amid weak trend in overseas markets. Silver declined by R200 to R53,000 per kg on reduced offtake by industrial units and coin makers at existing high levels. Traders said sentiment turned bearish after gold declined in the global markets. In London, gold fell by 0.1% to $1,585.43 an ounce, while silver shed 0.4% to $27.23 an ounce.

Delayed sowing may hit soyabean yields by 5-10%

Delayed monsoon in key soyabean growing states of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan is likely to affect yields of the important oilseed by 5-10% in the ongoing kharif season, experts said. ?Due to patchy pre-monsoon showers and delay in monsoon rains, soyabean yields are going to be affected, but it is not alarming. Yields could be down by 5-10% in the kharif season,? Indore-based directorate of soyabean research director S K Srivastava said.

India to head group to sequence coconut genome

India is to head a global thematic group to sequence the coconut genome under a project expected to take 8-10 years for completion. A recommendation to this effect was made by the 16th International Coconut Genetic Resources Network (COGENT) at the end of a three-day meeting of the grouping.
