Pushpa 2 stampede case: Police officers visited the residence of Telugu actor Allu Arjun on Monday and handed him a notice asking him to appear at the Chikkadpally police station in Hyderabad on Tuesday morning.
According to Officials, Arjun told them that he would cooperate with the investigation, The Indian Express reported.
This development follows the actor’s arrest on December 13, after which he was granted interim bail for four weeks by the Telangana High Court. The case relates to a stampede during the premiere of his film Pushpa 2 at a Hyderabad theatre on December 4.
The incident resulted in the death of a woman and severe injuries to her nine-year-old son. Police stated the stampede occurred after Arjun arrived at the venue.
The Congress government, led by Revanth Reddy, has expressed serious concern over the incident. In the Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister accused actor Allu Arjun of disobeying police orders to leave the theatre, which could have helped control the unruly crowd of fans. He also criticized Arjun for being insensitive toward the victims.
Arjun has denied the allegations, stating that he was committed to supporting the victims’ family but was advised not to visit the hospital to avoid creating a crowd.
In a related development, a Hyderabad court on Monday granted bail to six individuals arrested for allegedly vandalizing the residence of Telugu actor Allu Arjun. The incident took place on Sunday evening.
The six individuals, who claimed to be members of the Osmania University Joint Action Committee (OU-JAC), damaged flower pots and threw tomatoes at Arjun’s residence. They were arrested by the police and presented before a local court, which granted them bail.
The incident sparked a political row, with both the BJP and BRS slamming the Congress government. They claimed that some of the attackers were from the Kodangal constituency, which is represented by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
