In a major breakthrough, the Punjab Police’s State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), Mohali, has arrested Jasbir Singh, a resident of Mahlan village in Rupnagar district, on charges of espionage. The arrest comes after actionable intelligence revealed Singh’s deep links with a terror-backed spying network.

What do we know about Jasbir Singh’s ties with Pakistani operatives?

Jasbir Singh runs a YouTube channel named “Jaan Mahal” and is reportedly associated with PIO (Pakistan Intelligence Operative) Shakir alias Jutt Randhawa. He was also in close contact with Haryana-based YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, who was earlier arrested for similar charges, and Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish, a Pakistani national and expelled official from the Pakistan High Commission.

According to police, Jasbir Singh attended the Pakistan National Day event in Delhi on Danish’s invitation, where he interacted with Pakistani army officials and vloggers. He has travelled to Pakistan on three occasions—2020, 2021, and 2024—raising further suspicion.

Forensic scrutiny of digital evidence

Investigators have recovered Jasbir’s electronic devices, which reportedly contain multiple Pakistan-based contact numbers. These are now undergoing detailed forensic analysis. After Jyoti Malhotra’s arrest, Jasbir allegedly attempted to delete all communication records with these operatives to evade detection.

FIR registered, probe ongoing

An FIR has been registered at the SSOC, Mohali. Authorities are now expanding the investigation to trace the full extent of the espionage-terror nexus and identify all collaborators linked to this network.

The Punjab Police has reiterated its firm resolve to protect national security and dismantle all networks that pose a threat to the country.
