“We were two siblings, and she was younger than me. She had spoken to Dad last, even on the day of the incident, telling him about going to a party for dinner. We received the news that night. Her friends called us from her phone; they knew the password, so they called using her phone, and that’s how we found out. They told us that a speeding car hit them from behind. We were just told that there was an accident, so we immediately rushed out that night. According to the law, there should be a proper investigation, and that’s all we want,” the victim’s brother said, urging for strict action against the accused.

Meanwhile, Pune City Police arrested the bar owner and bar manager who served alcohol to the minor involved in the accident. Earlier today, the police also detained the father of the minor, according to Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar. On Monday, Commissioner Amitesh Kumar mentioned that the police are seeking permission to try the minor as an adult under the Juvenile Justice Act, as the accident, which resulted in two deaths, was a serious crime. The police are taking strict action under section 304 of the IPC, which is non-bailable, due to the severity of the crime. The minor was reportedly driving drunk on the narrow lane.

On May 19, the Juvenile Justice Board granted bail to the minor involved in the accident, as stated by the minor’s lawyer, Prashant Patil. The bail came with several conditions aimed at rehabilitation, including working with Yerawada traffic police for 15 days, writing an essay on the accident, receiving treatment to quit drinking, undergoing psychiatric counseling, and submitting a report.
