President Appoints New Governors: The Rashtrapati Bhavan has announced that Lakshman Prasad Acharya has been appointed as the governor of Assam with the additional charge of Manipur, while Gulab Chand Kataria has replaced Banwarilal Purohit as governor of Punjab. “Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Governor of Sikkim, appointed as Governor of Assam and has also been given additional charge of the Governor of Manipur,” the statement said.

With this, Acharya has succeeded Kataria, who has also been named administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh, according to a communique issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday night. President Droupadi Murmu has accepted Purohit’s resignation as Punjab governor and Chandigarh administrator, according to the statement.

Prior to this, Anusuiya Uikye has served as Manipur’s governor since February of last year.

Additionally, the new governor of Sikkim will be Om Prakash Mathur, a veteran BJP leader, according to the statement. 

Jharkhand Governor C P Radhakrishnan, who was formerly in charge of Telangana, has been appointed as Maharashtra’s new governor, following incumbent Ramesh Bais. Santosh Kumar Gangwar, a former Union Labour and Employment Minister, will succeed Radhakrishnan as Jharkhand’s governor. Meanwhile, Jishnu Dev Varma, former Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura, will be Telangana’s new governor.

Former IAS official K Kailashnathan, a key advisor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been appointed Lt Governor of Puducherry with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office. Kailashnathan, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s chief principal secretary, retired on June 30 after serving for more than a decade.
