Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the flood affected states and review the situation, reported news agencies citing government sources. The prime minister is expected to visit the states, meet the Chief Ministers and other top officials to understand the present situation on the ground in several states.

Several north Indian states are reeling under flood due to torrential rains that have been lashing cities for weeks now. Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Delhi are some of the worst affected areas. Punjab has been experiencing severe flooding for days now. At least 43 people died, while three others are still missing as of Friday. The relief and rescue operations have intensified with AIIMS Delhi sending a specialised medical team to the affected areas, officials said.

Now, government sources have told the news agencies that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting the flood-hit states.

Punjab flood: Several districts inundated 

According to a release by the Department of Information and Public Relations, the deaths in Punjab were reported from Amritsar (5), Barnala (5), Bathinda (4), Fazilka (1), Ferozepur (1), Gurdaspur (2), Hoshiarpur (7), Mansa (3), Pathankot (6), Patiala (1), Rupnagar (1), Sangrur (1) and SAS Nagar (2) and Ludhiana (4). Three people remain missing.

AIIMS Delhi has sent a team of doctors and nurses to be deployed in the flood-affected areas of the state and Northern India to extend medical and humanitarian support. The deployed team includes specialists from Medicine, psychiatry, paediatrics, community medicine, surgical disciplines, radiodiagnosis and laboratory medicine.

Odisha flood

In Odisha’s Balasore, Jalaka and Budhabalang rivers have swelled up prompting an alert from administration. Four days of incessant low pressure-induced rainfall in north Odisha has led to swelling up of rivers in the area. 

Though the low pressure has moved to Madhya Pradesh, different districts of Odisha received substantial rainfall, an IMD official said, adding that Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recorded 49.2 mm and 32.6 mm rainfall, ,respectively between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm.

Yamuna crosses danger mark in Delhi

Several areas in the national capital are inundated due to incessant rainfall in the region for the last few days. Yamuna has breached the danger mark prompting authorities to take swift action to evacuate people from the flood-prone areas.
