Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accompanied by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, conducted an aerial survey of Chooralmala in Wayanad on Saturday. PM Modi will assess the ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts and visit a hospital where the injured are receiving treatment. The disaster, which hit Chooralmala and Mundakkai, has claimed 226 lives so far.

PM Modi is expected to arrive in Kannur before conducting an aerial survey of the affected areas in Wayanad. Following the survey, the Prime Minister will visit the on-ground locations impacted by the landslides, where he will receive a briefing from rescue teams regarding the ongoing evacuation operations.

In addition to assessing the situation, PM Modi will visit a relief camp and a hospital, where he will meet with victims and survivors. His visit aims to ensure that the rehabilitation efforts are effective and that those affected receive the necessary support.

Later in the day, the Prime Minister is scheduled to chair a review meeting to be briefed in detail about the incident and the relief efforts currently underway.

In a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that the state has requested the central government to declare the landslides a national disaster and a severe calamity.

The Kerala state government has announced immediate assistance for those affected in the Mundakkai and Chooralmala areas of Wayanad. Families currently in relief camps will receive financial assistance of Rs 10,000, while adult members who have lost their livelihoods will be provided a daily allowance of Rs 300 for up to two individuals per family, with additional support for families with bedridden or long-term hospitalised patients.
