Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to preside over a meeting of the Union Council of Ministers on Sunday, likely marking the final such gathering during the second term of his government.
This meeting, scheduled to take place at the Sushma Swaraj Bhawan in the Chanakyapuri diplomatic enclave in New Delhi, will likely focus on crucial aspects such as the government’s performance highlights.
These periodic meetings have been pivotal for discussing key policy and governance matters. However, the upcoming session carries political significance in light of the impending Lok Sabha elections, anticipated to be held in April-May.
The Election Commission (EC) is expected to unveil the poll schedule within a few days. The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the BJP, has expressed confidence in retaining power for a third consecutive term under Modi’s leadership, buoyed by its developmental and welfare initiatives.
Meanwhile, the EC has initiated assessments of states’ readiness for conducting the Lok Sabha elections. Notably, in 2014, the EC announced the schedule for the nine-phase Lok Sabha elections on March 5, with the results declared on May 16.
Similarly, in 2019, the poll panel announced the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections on March 10, with the results announced on May 23.
