Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leaving for Bhutan, according to an early Tuesday morning statement released prior to his departure. The international visit will be two-day-long (November 11-12).

“This visit comes at a time when Bhutan is marking the 70th birthday of His Majesty the Fourth King,” read a statement on his official X account. The Indian leader confirmed that his Bhutan itinerary would include sitting down for talks with His Majesty the King of Bhutan, His Majesty the Fourth King and Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay.

He further wrote, “In a big boost to our energy partnership, the Punatsangchhu-II hydropower project will be inaugurated. This visit will add new vigour to our bilateral relations.”

The PM statement published on the official Modi website boasted about India and Bhutan’s “exemplary ties of friendship and cooperation, rooted in deep mutual trust, understanding, and goodwill.”

Modi’s message about “exemplary friendly relations between neighbouring countries,” comes amid the ongoing Delhi Red Fort blast investigation and Bihar elections.

India’s Ambassador to Bhutan, Sandeep Arya, also shared that the forthcoming two-day visit will coincide with major national and spiritual events, further foregrounding the “closest partnership” shared between the countries.

“There is something called the Global Peace Prayer Festival, which Bhutan says is an unprecedented event. That festival is going on right now… praying for world peace and happiness. So Prime Minister of India, will also be participating in the Peace prayer festival, along with the Bhutanese leaders,” Arya told ANI.
