PM addresses to the nation: Days after abrogating the special provisions granted to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday tried to reach out to the people of Valley. In a televised address, the prime minister said that Articles 370 and 35-A had only given terrorism, separatism, nepotism and massive corruptions in the state. “These Articles have been used as a weapon by Pakistan, killing at least 42,000 people,” he added.
He said that the nation has taken a historic decision. “Such a system, due to which our siblings of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh were deprived of many rights, which was a major obstacle in their development, they have now gone away,” Modi said. The prime minister further said that with the scrapping of special status, the dream was of Sardar Patel, Babasaheb Ambedkar, Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee, Atal Ji and crores of patriots has now fulfilled.
Pointing out at the losses that a section of society suffered due to Article 370, the prime minister said that there was no discussion about the loss of our brothers and sisters in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. “Surprisingly, if we talk to anyone, no one could even tell what was the benefit of Article 370 in the lives of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.
