Aftab Bahadur Masih, a Christian man in Pakistan, has been executed at Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail on charges of a murder he allegedly committed over two decades ago.
Protesting rights groups said that he was a minor when he supposedly committed the crime, and added that he was tortured into confessing to the murder charge before his execution.
According to the Dawn, Masih’s execution took place even as a last-minute reprieve was given to another death row inmate Shafqat Hussain.
Masih had spent 23 years in prison after being convicted of murder in Lahore in 1992.
According to British rights group and the Justice Project Pakistan (JPP), a law firm handling his case, Masih was just 15 at the time of his arrest, and so, too young to face the death penalty.
They also argue he was tortured into confessing to the crimes, as were two of the witnesses against him.
