Several schools in Delhi have been put on high alert on Thursday as more than 20 schools reportedly have received bomb threats through email. According to Delhi Police and the Department of Fire Services, bomb disposal squads, fire services were sent to the schools after the alerts were raised. Among the institutions that have been targeted are Sardar Patel Vidyalaya (Lodhi Estate), Vasant Valley School (Vasant Kunj), The Mother’s International School (Hauz Khaz), and Richmond Global School (Paschim Vihar). The schools were evacuated and closed at the time when anti-sabotage security checks were held. As per the latest updates by ANI, no explosives or any kind of suspicious materials have been identified till now.
Disturbing message on the threat mail
As per officials, the threatening email mentioned several explosives, identified as trinitrotoluene (TNT) , have been put inside the classrooms in black plastic bags. The email also included violent and disturbing language and also referred to plans of causing mass casualties. The message also included bitterness towards society and mental health treatment.
“Not a single soul will survive,” the message stated, followed by warnings of suicide and a detailed rant against the psychiatric medications and doctors. As per the latest update, authorities are working to track the origin of the email and have also started a cyber probe along with a physical inspection of the affected campuses.
St Stephen’s College also received a similar threat
Earlier this week, St Stephen’s College of the Delhi University also received the same warning claiming that a bomb had been placed inside its library. Similar emails were received by the other two schools in Dwarka and Chanakyapuri on Monday. In all the cases, a thorough search operation was conducted by the bomb disposal group, but no explosives were found.
As a precautionary measure, Sardar Patel Vidyalaya has officially declared a holiday for the day and has informed the parents through email. Delhi Police have confirmed that while multiple schools were impacted, no new colleges other than St Stephen’s have reported similar bomb threats.
Investigations are currently going on, and security forces are on high alert across the national capital’s education institutes.
