As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) edges closer to victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, the General Administration Department (GAD) of the Delhi government issued an order on Saturday restricting the movement of official documents, files and computer hardware from the Delhi Secretariat complex.
The directive issued by GAD Joint Secretary Pradeep Tayal cites security concerns and emphasises the importance of safeguarding government records. The order specifically states that no files, documents or electronic hardware should be taken outside the Delhi Secretariat without prior approval from the department.
“To address security concerns and ensure the safety of records, it is requested that no files, documents, computer hardware, etc., may be taken outside the Delhi Secretariat complex without permission from GAD,” the notice read.
This order applies not only to all branch in-charges within the Secretariat but also extends to the Secretariat Offices and Camp Offices of the Council of Ministers, directing officials to take necessary steps to secure sensitive records.
The timing of this directive has raised speculation, as it coincides with the BJP leading in the election results. However, officials maintain that the move is purely administrative and aimed at preventing unauthorised access to important government records amid the transition process.
