Al-Falah University has issued a statement distancing itself from those accused in the Red Fort blast case, asserting that it has “no connection with them beyond official work”. In its statement released on November 12, the university said it was “deeply saddened and anguished” by the incident in Delhi that has shaken the entire nation.

It acknowledged that two doctors affiliated with it had been arrested in connection with the incident and added that the university would fully cooperate with investigating authorities to ensure a “logical, fair, and conclusive determination” in a matter concerning national security.

Dr Umar Nabi, believed to have been driving the i20 car that exploded near the Lal Quila metro station, was employed at Al-Falah University’s School of Medical Sciences and Research Centre. Two other doctors affiliated with the university, Muzammil Shakeel and Shaheen Saeed, have also been arrested for their alleged involvement in terror-related activities.

“I, Prof. (Dr.) Bhupinder Kaur Anand, Vice Chancellor of Al-Falah University, Villag Unau, Pandaoud, Maryana, wish to make the following public statement. 

Al-Falah Group, is managing various institutions since the year 1997, it became autonomous in the year 2009 and became a university in the year 2014. Al-Falah is recognised by the University Grants Commission under section 2(f) and 12(B) under UGC Act, 1956. Al-Falah hospital is committed to care and serving since 2014. Al-Falah University is managing its medical college since 2019 and is also one of the Members of the Association of Indian Universities.  

Our University has been conducting various academic and professional courses and has been training undergraduate MBBS students since 2019. The doctors trained and graduated from our institution are presently serving in reputed hospitals, institutions, and organisations across India and abroad, holding responsible and distinguished positions. Further, Post Graduate Medical Courses MD/MS various subjects commenced in the university in 2023. 

We are deeply saddened and anguished by the unfortunate developments that took place and condemn the same. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the innocent people affected by these distressing events. 

We have also learnt that two of our doctors have been detained by the Investigating agencies. 

We wish to make it clear that the University has no connection with the said persons apart from them being working in their official capacities with the University.

The University also notes with deep concern that certain online platforms are circulating baseless and misleading stories with the clear intent of maligning the reputation and goodwill of the University. We strongly condemn and categorically deny all such false and defamatory allegations. It is hereby clarified that no such chemical or material, as is being alleged by certain platforms, is being used, stored or handled within the University premises. The University laboratories are used solely and exclusively for the academic and training requirements of MBBS students and other authorised courses. Every laboratory activity is carried out in strict adherence to established safety protocols, statutory norms, and ethical standards mandated by the regulatory authorities.
