Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday praised Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his efforts in transforming the state and lifting it out of what he described as the ‘Jungle Raaj’.
His comments came during an event in Darbhanga, where he laid the foundation for an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and inaugurated several infrastructure projects valued at approximately Rs 12,100 crore.
“Nitish ji has established a model of good governance (Shushashan), pulling the state out of the era of Jungle Raaj. His achievement deserves all praise,” PM Modi stated, addressing the gathering where Nitish Kumar, the JD(U) leader, was also present.
The Prime Minister highlighted the progress Bihar has made under the NDA government, particularly in health infrastructure. “Bihar is witnessing a lot of development. The NDA government is committed to the welfare of the people. The previous government in Bihar never bothered about health infrastructure. They made false promises, but the situation has improved since Nitish Kumar ji came to power,” Modi said.

On Bihar’s recurring flood challenges, the Prime Minister announced the launch of a Rs 11,000 crore flood mitigation project to tackle the state’s flood issues.
In his address, PM Modi also outlined his government’s comprehensive approach to healthcare, emphasising disease prevention, accurate diagnosis, affordable treatment, and expanding healthcare access, even in smaller towns. He stressed the importance of integrating technology into healthcare services.
“Today, a significant step has been taken to realize the dream of establishing an AIIMS in Darbhanga. The construction of AIIMS here will bring a significant transformation in the healthcare sector of Bihar. This facility will serve the people not only from Mithila, Kosi, and Tirhut regions but also from West Bengal and nearby areas. Even patients from Nepal will be able to receive treatment at this AIIMS hospital. The construction of AIIMS here will also create numerous new employment opportunities,” he concluded.
