Days after the terror attack near Delhi’s Red Fort, which claimed the lives of at least 13 people and left several injured who are getting treated at LNJP Hospital, a new CCTV footage has emerged. It shows the explosion from close proximity. The footage shows the exact moment the terror attack took place near the Lal Quila metro station.

Red Fort terror attack: New CCTV footage surfaces

The 11-second video opens to show the “slow-moving” i20 car at a traffic signal near the Lal Quila metro station. It shows e-rickshaws, autos, and other vehicles surrounding the explosives-laden Hyundai i20 in the densely populated area in Old Delhi. Within seconds, the area erupts in flames as the explosives inside the car detonate, engulfing nearby vehicles in fire.

According to The Indian Express, police suspect that over 60 kilograms of ammonium nitrate were packed inside the vehicle when it exploded.

Another CCTV footage from a different angle also appears to show the exact moment of the blast near Delhi’s Red Fort. It shows traffic crawling along one of Old Delhi’s busiest routes – connecting Delhi Gate to Kashmere Gate, opposite the pedestrian path to Chandni Chowk, and roughly 1.5 kilometres from Jama Masjid – before a massive blast sends the cameras into darkness.

Red Fort terror attack

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the investigation into the Red Fort terror attack. The Centre has described it as a “terror attack” on Wednesday and assured that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.

The white i20 car seen in the CCTV footage was driven by Dr Umar Nabi, a resident of Pulwama, after waiting for nearly three hours in the parking lot adjacent to the Red Fort. He was 32 years old and was employed at Al-Falah University. However, the university administration has distanced itself from the “white-collar” terror module, stating that they were only involved with the accused in a professional capacity. The university has also assured that it will cooperate with the investigative agencies.

Police in Haryana have found a red Ford EcoSport, which belongs to Dr Umar Nabi, from a farmhouse in Haryana’s Khandawali village. Forensic and ballistic experts are currently examining the vehicle for potential evidence, The Indian Express reported.
