Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday vowed to eliminate Naxalism from India by March 31, 2026, citing significant progress under the current Chhattisgarh government.
“In the past year, a large number of Naxalites have been killed. Under the leadership of the Chhattisgarh government, commendable action has been taken against Naxalites in the state with a very good strategy. We will completely eliminate Naxalism from the country by March 31, 2026…” Shah said at an event in Jagdalpur.
On Sunday, Shah met with a group of former Naxals, expressing his satisfaction over their decision to surrender. “I am the happiest person today, more than you or your family, as our painstaking efforts to convince you to surrender and join the mainstream has bore fruit,” he told the group.

The event was attended by about 30 surrendered Naxals and insurgents from six states — Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Assam. Shah described the gathering as “small but significant,” highlighting the growing number of youths who are laying down arms and rejecting violence.
Since 2019, when Shah took charge of the home ministry, the government has intensified efforts to encourage militants and Naxals to surrender. “Following our initiatives, 20 peace accords were signed in the northeast and 9,000 militants surrendered,” he said.
He detailed rehabilitation measures, including housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and dairy development support, enabling surrendered Naxals to earn Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 monthly. Shah also assured assistance for those seeking to reintegrate into society, asking them to convey the message to their former colleagues.

During the event, surrendered Naxals shared how they have benefited from government schemes, including jobs in the police and private sector, as well as access to bank loans to start businesses.
Shah reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing their needs and ensuring their successful reintegration into society.
