Mumbai will face extensive water supply disruptions during the Christmas break as officials take up pipeline connection work in various areas. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation indicated that suburban hubs such as Bandra and Andheri will face 99 hours of low-pressure water supply amid work on Metro Line 7A.
“Major water pipeline connection works will be taken up which will affect water supply in parts of G North, K East and H East wards,” a Mid-Day report quoted BMC as saying.
Which areas will be affected?
According to a Mid-day report, multiple areas across the city will be affected till December 26 with limited water and low pressure supply. The list includes the ‘G North’ ward spanning Dharavi, the K East ward which includes Andheri and surrounding areas, and the H East ward which includes the busy Bandra-Kurla Complex.
G North Ward
Morning supply will be available Dharavi Loop Road, AKG Nagar, Jasmine Mill Road, Matunga Labour Camp, Sant Rohidas Road, 60 Feet Road, 90 Feet Road, Sant Kakeya Road, M.P. Nagar, Dhorwada, Mahatma Gandhi Road. This will follow regular timing of 4:00 am to 12 noon. These areas will face low pressure supply from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm every day between December 22 and 25.
Evening supply will be available for Dharavi Main Road, Ganesh Mandir Road, Dilip Kadam Road, Jasmine Mill Road, Mahim Junction, A.K.G. Nagar. This will follow a regular timing of 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The low-pressure supply issue will persist till December 25 — from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm daily.
K East Ward
Afternoon water supply will be available for Kabir Nagar, Bamanwada, Parsi Wada, Airport Area, Tarun Bharat Colony, Islampura, Deulwadi, and P&T Colony — from 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm. These areas will face low pressure supply from 2:00 am to 5:30 pm every day between December 22 and 25.
Evening supply will be available for Koldongri, Old Police Lane, Vijay Nagar (Sahar Road) and Mogarpada with regular timings between 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm. The low-pressure supply issue will be in effect during the same time period from December 22 to 25.
H East Ward
Early morning supply will be available for Prabhat Colony, TPS-3, Agripada, Kalina, CST Road (South Side), Hans Bhugra Road, University Area, Yashwant Nagar, Sunder Nagar, Kolivery Village, Teen Bangla, Shantilal Compound, Patel Compound, Golibar Road, Khar Subway to Kherwadi, Navpada, Behram Nagar, A.K. Road, Government Colony and Bandra (East). It will follow regular timings of 3:30 am to 9:00 am. Low pressure supply will persist from December 23 to 25 during this time period.
Late night supply areas will include Bandra-Kurla Complex or BKC — including Motilal Nagar — will regular timing between 10:00 pm and 11:40 pm. The area will see low pressure supply every day till December 25 during this time slot.
Mumbai Metro 7A work
The disruptions will take place due to pipeline reconnection work for the Mumbai Metro Line 7A project. Construction had previously required the diversion of a major 2,400 mm water pipeline. The BMC will now reconnect this route during the 99-hours spanning December 22 to December 26.
