Thane and Palghar districts and Navi Mumbai town have been witnessing incessant rains since the last two days and a number of incidents of tree fall were reported from these localities.

The administration has declared a holiday for schools and colleges in the district on Monday. More than 20,000 cusecs (cubic foot per second) of water was released from the Gangapur dam on Sunday morning, which led to the Godavari river flowing above the danger mark.

Flood in Assam claimed one more life on Sunday, pushing the toll to 90, even as the overall situation improved considerably. Nearly 88,000 people remain affected by the deluge in 10 of the 33 districts of the state, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). Till Saturday, around 1.22 lakh people were affected in the 10 flood-battered districts.
At least 400 people from Kranti Nagar residential area near the Mithi river in Mumbai were shifted on Sunday after its water level crossed the danger mark following heavy rains in the city.
At least 58 people stranded at a village in Maharashtra's Thane district were rescued by the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Sunday. The people were stuck at their water-logged homes in Ju-Nandkhuri village in Khadavli area of the district since morning after very heavy rains in the area.
The opposition attacked Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for being on a poll yatra when Maharashtra was facing the brunt of heavy rains. Congress campaign committee chief Nana Patole said Fadnavis, despite being head of the state's Disaster Management Authority, was carrying out a "five-star yatra" with government funding. The continuing heavy flood in Godavari river affected over 74,000 people in parts of East and West Godavari districts in Andhra Pradesh with nearly 18,000 of them being shifted to relief camps. A second warning signal was issued at Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dowaleswaram as water flow in the river crossed the 13 lakh cusecs mark on Sunday.
In Gujarat, heavy rains continued to lash Vadodara though the situation had eased considerably as the water level in Vishwamitri river was receding. Vadodara District Collector Shalini Agarwal said a post-flood cleanliness drive had begun, under which officials of the civic health department were working to prevent outbreak of water-borne diseases.

Total 1,12,535 cusecs water was released from Modaksagar dam into the Vaitarna river and 42,000 cusecs from Tansa dam into the Tansa river, which led to flooding in Vasai, Wada and Palghar talukas. People stranded due to flooding in Tansa Mori, Mithaghar, Rajivali, Arnala and Bathane and Pelhar of Vasai, were rescued. Around 12 people, who were marooned in a cattle-shed in Gandre village in Palghar district, were rescued by the police and locals.

A PTI report said that at least four persons died in rain-related incidents in Mumbai, Pune and Palghar districts while a man is missing after he fell into a swollen nullah in Dharavi in Central Mumbai on Sunday afternoon. On Sunday, a 52-year-old woman and her 26-year-old son were killed after they suffered an electric shock when they touched the door of their water-logged house in suburban Santacruz.

Officials told PTi that these low-lying areas in Diva were already flooded to some extent due to continuous downpour in the last couple of days.
In view of the heavy rains alert, the government has advised people living in Mumbai Metropolitan Region, which also covers districts of Raigad, Thane and Palghar, to avoid venturing out if not necessary. "All essential services will remain functional on Monday," it said.

On being alerted by the state administration that 15 people were stranded in Buranda village in Palghar, over 100 kilometres from here, an IAF Mi-17 chopper was sent. The helicopter, however, had to return in the evening to Santacruz in Mumbai without completing the rescue mission as the people were not located at the designated place and also due to heavy rains causing poor visibility.
A total of 12 trains have been cancelled, 6 trains short terminated, 2 trains partially cancelled, and one each has been diverted and rescheduled, owing to heavy rainfall and waterlogging. Moreover, a boulder also fell between Apta-Jite section of Central Railway.
Based on the assessment of the evolving situation and prediction of rainfall by IMD, teams of NDRF have been airlifted from Vadodara, Gujarat and will land in Mumbai and will be deployed in Aurangabad, Ahmednagar, Kolhapur and Ratnagirip districts of Maharashtra, reported news agency, ANI.
