Mumbai police said they received a WhatsApp message early Saturday threatening to kill Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The message, sent to the traffic police helpline, claimed involvement of two ISI agents in a plot to carry out a bomb blast targeting Modi, an official said, as PTI reported.

Police traced the number to Ajmer, Rajasthan, and a team has been dispatched to apprehend the suspect. Investigators suspect the sender may be mentally unstable or under the influence of alcohol, though the investigation is ongoing.

A FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the official added.

Mumbai police said the traffic helpline has received several hoax threat messages in the past, but they are taking the matter seriously given the nature of the threat.
