Teams of Mumbai and Assam police visited the Mumbai residence of podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia on Friday as part of an investigation into his controversial remarks on a YouTube show, but found his flat locked, an official said.

Allahbadia, known for his ‘BeerBiceps’ channel on YouTube, sparked massive outrage with crass remarks about parents and sex on comedian Samay Raina’s now-deleted YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent,’ leading to complaints from several individuals.

“The Mumbai police, who have initiated an inquiry in connection with Ranveer Allahbadia’s controversial remarks, on Friday went to his flat in Versova area, but found it locked,” an official said.

Allahbadia had been asked to appear at the Khar police station on Thursday regarding the probe into his comments. However, after he failed to do so, the police issued a second summons asking him to appear on Friday, the official said.

The podcaster had requested that his statement be recorded at his residence, but his request was denied, he added.

Meanwhile, an Assam police team is also seeking to question Allahbadia in a case registered in Guwahati following a complaint by a resident there, alleging the promotion of obscenity in a publicly accessible online show.

“Accordingly, teams of the Mumbai and Assam police went to Allahbadia’s flat in Versova this morning, but found it locked. Both the police teams then returned to Khar police station,” the official said.

The case in Guwahati was registered on Monday. Apart from Allahbadia and Raina, others named in the Assam case include Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija.

On Thursday, the Assam police team met officials from the Maharashtra Cyber Department.

Both the Mumbai police and the cyber department, conducting separate investigations into the remarks, have asked Raina to appear before them within the next five days.

The Mumbai police (Khar police station) have so far recorded statements from seven individuals, including Makhija, Chanchlani, and Allahbadia’s manager, following a complaint by a BJP functionary. However, no FIR has been registered by the city police yet, the official said.

The Mumbai police also plan to record the statement of Pratham Sagar, the video editor of ‘India’s Got Latent,’ and have summoned him for questioning in the afternoon.

Maharashtra Cyber has so far summoned at least 50 individuals to record their statements in connection with a case registered by the department. Those summoned include participants of the show. On Thursday, actor and film personality Raghu Ram, who was on the judges’ panel of Raina’s show, recorded his statement with the agency.
