Narendra Modi took the oath as the Prime Minister of India for the third consecutive term on Sunday at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. This is a feat that has only been achieved by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru so far. Modi will continue as the Prime Minister for another five years, but what is going to be different this time is the fact that he will be sharing the power as the BJP didn’t win enough seats in the Lok Sabha on its own. Following the principle of coalition dharma, the new Council of Ministers will be made up of 72 ministers, including 11 who belong to the NDA alliance. The Modi 3.0 team will have 30 Cabinet Ministers, 5 Ministers of State with Independent Charge, and 36 Ministers of State.

Amit Shah, who was in charge of the Home Ministry in Modi 2.0 Cabinet, Rajnath Singh, who handled Defence, Nirmala Sitharaman, the Finance Minister, and S Jaishankar, who managed External Affairs, are all part of the new government. Additionally, other senior members from the previous government, like Piyush Goyal, Dharmendra Pradhan, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Kiren Rijiju, Sarbananda Sonowal, Bhupender Yadav, Giriraj Singh, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, G Kishan Reddy, and Hardeep Singh Puri were among the other returning faces.

At least 8,000 guests were present at the oath-taking ceremony including leaders from neighbouring countries and the Indian Ocean Region, like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Bhutan, Nepal, Mauritius, and Seychelles. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also attended Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony, citing it as his “constitutional duty” as the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha. However, leaders from various opposition parties, including the Trinamool Congress and the Left, declined to participate. Bollywood actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Vikrant Masey, Anupam Kher were also seen in attendance.
