What are exit polls?
Private organizations conduct exit polls to forecast election outcomes by asking voters who they voted for as they leave polling stations. These polls presume that respondents are more likely to speak the truth right outside the polling booth since their memories are fresh. Exit polls differ from pre-election polls and, while occasionally inaccurate, are regularly used in India.
