The body of 19-year-old Sneha Debnath, a Delhi University student who had been missing for six days, was recovered from the Yamuna River near the Geeta Colony flyover on Sunday evening, police said.

A resident of Paryavaran Complex in south Delhi and originally from Tripura, Debnath was reported missing on July 7. A missing person’s FIR was registered at the Mehrauli Police Station, following which a search operation was launched.

According to officials, Debnath left behind a handwritten note suggesting she intended to jump off the Signature Bridge. Investigators tracked her last known location using technical surveillance and confirmed her presence at the bridge on July 7. A cab driver who dropped her there and eyewitnesses reported seeing a young woman standing on the bridge before vanishing from sight.

A large-scale search operation, involving the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local police, combed the river stretch from Nigam Bodh Ghat to Noida. Her body was eventually spotted under the Geeta Colony flyover and identified by her family.

Police said Debnath had sent emails and messages to close friends early on July 7. Her friends revealed she had been emotionally distressed for the past few months, raising concerns about her mental well-being.

Her family and friends have also expressed concerns about the surveillance infrastructure in the area around the Signature Bridge.

Debnath’s family claimed that none of the CCTV cameras on the Signature Bridge or in the vicinity were operational at the time she was spotted there.
