Jharkhand Police have arrested six of the seven people accused of allegedly raping a minor girl in Dhanbad district. One of the suspects also recorded the crime on a mobile phone, according to police.

The 14-year-old victim was allegedly raped by her lover, who is also a minor, along with six of his friends over two consecutive days starting from Sunday evening in the Dhansar area of the district.

Dhansar police station in-charge Manoj Pandey stated that six of the seven accused, including the victim’s boyfriend, have been arrested. Among the six, two are reportedly minors, while the remaining four are adults.“They will be produced before the court on Thursday,” he said, as PTI reported.

According to the victim’s statement, her lover called her to Dhanbad railway station on Sunday evening and took her to a house in Duhatand, where he raped her along with a friend. After the crime, they locked her in a room.

The following evening, five more friends of her boyfriend raped her in a bush near that house, the victim informed the police.When locals heard the girl crying for help, they went to the scene, but by then all the suspects had escaped, the police officer mentioned.

During a search of the house where the victim’s boyfriend lives, police found no one there. They are also trying to find out where the victim’s family is.The victim is currently staying in a shelter home in Dhanbad and is receiving counselling from the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).

Uttam Mukherjee, chairman of the CWC, mentioned that efforts are underway to persuade the victim to provide details about her family members, but she is not cooperating. The victim stated that her parents have passed away and her younger sister lives in Bihar.

“She also claimed that she lives with her uncle in Bihar. She, however, refused to share his name and residential address. We are also trying to find out how she reached Dhanbad from Bihar,” Mukherjee said.

A police officer involved in the investigation commented that the girl’s statements were leading the investigation astray. “Now, we are banking on the interrogation of the accused lover to get details of the girl,” he said.
