In every election, we hear about crorepati candidates, flashy assets, lavish cars and big promises. But this time in the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, there is one man who stands out for the exact opposite reason, he owns absolutely nothing. No house, no land, no savings, not even a few thousand rupees on paper.

In an election where more than 42% of candidates have assets above ₹1 crore, Sunil Kumar Choudhary is in a category of his own.

Bihar elections 2025: Who is Sunil Kumar Choudhary

Sunil Kumar Choudhary, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate from Pirpainti (SC), has studied till Class 12. Sunil is 40 years old and has no job listed, no income declared, and no liabilities either. His election affidavit is almost blank, except for his name, age, education and the fact that he has zero assets.

At a time when crores are being spent in campaigns, Sunil is contesting with whatever support he gets on the ground. No criminal cases, no wealth to fall back on, just a hope that voters will see honesty in his simplicity. Sunil is the BSP candidate from the Pirpainti (SC) Assembly seat in Bhagalpur district. Voting was held on November 11, and counting will take place on November 14, beginning with postal ballots at 8 am.

The Election Commission has said that this year’s voting saw a historic turnout,  67.13%, the highest in the state since 1951. Counting will be carried out across all 243 Assembly seats, with Returning Officers and Observers monitoring the process.

Out of 2,600 candidates analysed by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), the average candidate this year owns assets worth ₹3.35 crore. In 2020, it was ₹1.72 crore. The number of crorepati candidates has gone up dramatically.

The richest candidate this year is Ran Kaushal Pratap Singh of VIP, contesting from Lauriya, with declared assets of over ₹368 crore. Even many mid-level candidates have assets between ₹50 lakh to several crores.
