A 44-year-old woman in Mangaluru died after being run over by a lorry on National Highway 66 in the city’s Kulur area. The accident took place when the victim, identified as Madhavi, was commuting to work at around 8.30 am on Tuesday. According to police, Madhavi’s two-wheeler skidded on a pothole, she lost balance and fell on the road. A fish-laden lorry trailing her vehicle ran over her. She suffered critical injuries, leading to her instant death. Disturbing CCTV footage of the accident has surfaced on social media.

According to a Mangalore Today report, locals have expressed strong anger over the poor condition of district roads and claimed that no action has been taken despite repeated complaints. The report stated that residents accused authorities of jumping to action only after fatal accidents take place.
Madhavi, a resident of Udupi, worked as a lab technician in a hospital blood bank. She was travelling from her home in Baikapanady to the hospital when the accident occurred.
Mangaluru Police have registered a case against the lorry driver as well as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials for negligence. Senior police officials reportedly rushed to the spot to pacify residents protesting the lack of road maintenance. The case has been registered at the Mangaluru North Traffic Police Station under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Indian Motor Vehicles Act.
