Mahayuti is set for a landslide victory in Maharashtra, thus giving BJP a major boost ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections next year. BJP leaders can now surely be more confident of defeating the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi and end its 10-year rule in the national capital. The BJP announced it will soon launch a ‘Parivartan Yatra’ aimed at bringing about change in Delhi’s governance.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva believes the election results from Maharashtra prove that the public is fully backing Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. He pointed to the BJP’s victories in recent state elections like Haryana and Uttar Pradesh bypolls, which he says will energize party workers to challenge the AAP’s corruption and ineffective governance in Delhi.
Plans for ‘Parivartan Yatra’ in Delhi
The BJP is planning a ‘Parivartan Yatra’ in Delhi, with a nine-member committee formed to prepare for the campaign. A video shared on social media highlighted the party’s optimism, showing a symbolic message of hope and change, with the phrase “The Lotus will bloom in Delhi.” The last time the BJP won Delhi’s Assembly elections was in 1993.
AAP’s long rule in Delhi
The AAP, led by Arvind Kejriwal, has dominated Delhi politics for the last decade, securing landslide victories in 2015 and 2020. However, the BJP is now hopeful of making a strong comeback, particularly after winning all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi this year and outperforming AAP in 52 of the city’s 70 Assembly constituencies.
BJP leaders claim that Kejriwal’s image as a clean and effective leader has been tarnished by various corruption scandals, such as the liquor scam and the ‘Sheshmahal’ scam, as well as issues with public services like poor roads, water shortages, pollution, and dilapidated transport. These problems, they say, have led to growing discontent among Delhi residents.
BJP leaders in Delhi believe that the party’s success in Maharashtra signals a bright future for the BJP in Delhi’s upcoming Assembly elections. They praised the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and credited the party’s workers for their hard work in spreading the BJP’s message of development and good governance.
